AWA
AWA 2011: Here’s What I’m Checking Out (And Presenting!)
0AWA is always a panel-packed convention and this year doesn’t really change much! So you really have to think about what panels you want to prioritize going to. Now that the schedule is out, I can figure out what panels I want to go to. You’ll notice in some spots the panels overlap. That means I’ll have to make life-wrenching decisions. Decisions that will change my life forever. But they must be made. I’ve already haven to give up on Unusual Manga Genres, as they are scheduled against my Engrish Jamboree. That’s what happens when a con has too much content!
But I’ve made sure to bold my panels to make sure you know which ones are truly necessary.

So what are my panels?
- Engrish Jambore II – Engrish Haldel: This panel was debuted by Drew and myself AWA last year, and this year I’m returning as a soro to deriver tlue rove for all that rove engrish.
- Anime’s Creepy Uncle – Go Nagai At A Glance: Twitterless Kevin and I gush how awesome Go Nagai is and why you should think he is awesome too. Because you should! He’s awesome.
- Getting Your Anime Groove Back: Think you might be getting out of anime? Well I just might have some shows to get you back in the game, as it were. And is an excuse to show off the first 13 minutes of Redline.
And so there you have it. I’m sure I’ve now somehow skipped over panels that I should have. I’m also sure that during some of these panels I’ll need to eat, or have a sudden inescapable urge to use the dealer’s room and/or restroom. But, these are the panels I want to/will be at. They will all be great. You should go to them.
Especially mine. (I’m so lonely!)
AWA 2010
0Was a total blast. Finally actually met Gerald from AWO, met up again with Miko after missing each other for like, 3 cons straight, got to hear Dave Merrill tell the world how awesome General Daimos is, and got to talk Tezuka and Giant Killing in equal measure with Ed Chavez. Drew and I had a line for our first panel where we blasted Engrish at people and they didn’t leave, even when at the start it was just audio. Oh and we then talked about Sports Anime and it wasn’t just us in the room! Also I got to see Greggo again which was very cool who also ABUSED, ABUSED his power of being an anime game host host to canvas guests for Dragon Quest IX! The AUDACITY. And that was just Friday! And I’m also leaving out a bunch of stuff I’m sure. Carl Horn showed off a book filled with design ideas from Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise, on how they had 5-6 rejected design ideas for items for every one they used. (Gainax took common household items that we take for granted like spoons and reinterpreted then for the movie’s setting, such that they are instantly familiar but still completely unique. And apparently did this several times for each item!) Mind. Blown.
And how I locked my keys in my car immediately as I park at the Waverly on Thursday night. Although I guess getting the low point out on Thursday was a plus!
But yeah, AWA as always a ton of fun, can’t wait for next year.
Anime Weekend Atlanta 15
0
So I guess this weekend is AWA! I’ll be running around like crazy!
Hopefully, it’ll be fun!
I’ll be in the Anime Podcasters Roundtable on Saturday, 6:30 – 7:30 PM, Kennesaw Ballroom. You can hear me blab aloud IN PERSON.
James and (the illustrous DJ Inubito) and hid fellow DJ Cynispin along with some other anime fan DJs are passing out 200 copies of their latest CD release, “Renegade Remix Force.” It’s chock-full of anime and video game remixes and I banged my hands at the computer till a cover design came out. Good times!
Whomever is going this year, I’ll see you there!
Man I need to stop being so anti-social online!
0I keep meaning post on LJ, like everyday, then something inside me stops me from doing it. I have no clue why, but that’s okay because I’ve now kicked reason to the curb and am now posting an entry! Hopefully it won’t be the last one for a month! Er anyway…
Hello world!

So AWA happened and it was pretty awesome. I’ve covered most of what happened to me via my podcast, but in short I had a blast and it was great seeing people I only get to see once a year or so. Though sadly I also missed out on a few people I wanted to see but missed, but there’s always next year right?
Somehow ending up on the podcast roundtable was definitely the highlisght of the con for me, though Anime hell was great this year too. Last years while fun was not quite as good as previous years, he totally brought it back around for this year. Also seeing the last bits of the Ouran High School Host Challenege was something that had to seen to be believed. While I can safely say it was Not For Me, for eveyrone there it was very much for them and they looked like they had an amazing time*. But yeah, AWA was fun.
Has anyone out there played Time Hollow for DS yet? It’s kinda like Phoneix Wright meets The Butterfly Effect. It’s pretty fun.
And also on the DS front, I’ve been playing Dragon Quest 4 as of late. Man, as much as people knock the DQ series for never changing, DQ4 is pretty revolutionary in some respects. Maybe I’ll expound on that on a later post because this is starting to get a little long…
*Oh wait, I’m not supposed to say nice things about that anymore. Oops!
